Eliana grinned back
"You don't know how grateful I am to you an your father." She said coming aboard the boat. "If there is anything I can do to repay your kindness..."

"You already have, Miss. I've been trying to convince that old fool for years now that we should sell our catch in Oldtown, rather than Starfall. Your arrival has just created the opportunity!"
Taking his hands away from the knots in the rigging, he said, "Names Quentyn."

"Anna" Eliana said knowing her own name wouldnt be safe if the two had been to Starfall alot. "Well I am glad that I could help on that front."

"Well, Anna, we'll be shoving off in a few minutes."
Looking towards the southwestern horizon, he added, "You can stay in my hammock for the voyage, it's just in that cabin over there."Quentyn pointed to the door his father had just slammed shut. "The sky over Oldtown looks fair, so I'll be sleeping under the stars these next few nights anyways."

"Sounds delightful." Eliana said with a smile. "Are you sure your father wouldn't mind? He doesn't seem too happy with me being on here."

"Well, he's never happy, so don't think that's your fault."
Finishing his work on the rigging, Quentyn quickly pulled up the ramp to the shore. The winds filled the sails, and the ship slowly started to drift down the river.

"May fathers the same, at least he's never happy with me." She said, "Are you sure you don't need a hand?"

"Well, if you want, you could take a hold of the rudder." Quentyn pointed out the wooden pole near the back of the ship. "The Torentine River is very calm in the summer, so all you have to do is keep it straight."
Thinking he added, "Except when we come to a bend. Don't keep it straight then."

"I'll try to remember that." Eliana said with a chuckle as she went to the rudder and sat beside it.
She undid Dawn and let the sword in a plain scabbard rest beside her near the bulk.

Quentyn proceeded to lean on the wall of the cabin, watching as "Anna" steered the ship. "So what's your story? Not often you see a woman with a sword."

Eliana smiled.
"I escaped." she said. "And I could hardly roam in the desert without something to keep me safe."

"Escaped." It was hard to tell whether Quentyn was asking, or if it was simply a statement.
"Well, sword or not, you wouldn't have lasted long in the desert without water."

"That is true." she said "But I know the lands round here well."

Quentyn raised an eyebrow. "Oh, is that so? Did you grow up around here?"

In the town of Starfall." she answered knowing that she could recite the facts about the place easily. "Always in the shadow of the castle."
