Lorraine surveyed her work. "Yes, that should do it." She looked up into his face and blushed. "I..." She looked away. "Whatever you wish. I wouldn't want to interrupt your routine, my lord."

She thought a moment. "Perhaps you clean your weapons, or study your plans for rebuilding, or write letters to the men you need to summon." She shook her head. "I haven't the slightest idea, really."

She sat back on her heels. "I always have. I've been the youngest daughter, then a second son's widow, then the princess' lady in waiting. I have simply grown used to taking care of others," she said, shrugging her shoulders.

He sits her down and kneels to her. "Then here now, I ask what you wish to do, that I take care of you. In the north you will be my wife, and have no need to take care of people, you will be your own woman. I promise you." He states staring into her eyes.

Lorraine's lips trembled. "Then who will take care of you?" she said, managing a smile. She touched his face and leaned down to kiss him.

She looked down at him and smiled. She couldn't stop smiling. "You'll have to." She kissed him again. "Wilhelm," she breathed, saying his given name for the first time.
