999th commander Rupert Rivers sat at his desk, reading over the accounts. He was an old man, over 70 years old, and he had been commander these past 40 years. His hair was white and his skin was spotted with age, but Rivers still had strong arms and a clear mind.

Donal entered the room escorted by the men of the nights watch. "Thank you boys, now leave me with the Lord Commander..." He Giggled of his own joke. He turned to Rivers. "My Lord, could you tell these brutes to put me down? I'm Donal Lynderly, The Red Viper, and I have important business to deal with you..."

The men didn't let him go, waiting for the Commander's say-so.
The old Lord Commander looked up slowly. He looked from his brothers to the Lynderly and back again. After a long time, he waved his hand and the men left. As the door closed behind them, he spoke. "And what business is so important that you had to be disarmed and dragged in here like a criminal?" His voice was deep and rich and he enunciated every word.

"It's seems to me that being grabbed like a criminal is the only way I found to get here..." He stared at the window across the room, now with a sad face. "The Watch is having troubles with those Beyond the Wall, as always, but you know this time is different... I've seen a great shadow gathering in the North..."

The Lord Commander put down his papers, folding his arms across his chest and sighing. "Who are you to be telling me these things, Donal Lynderly? You ride up from the south and tell me of a shadow in the north. I think I know more of the north than you, boy."

"Sorry, my Lord, didn't mean to offend... I just came here to offer my help..."

"Do you intend to take the black then? That hardly requires a private audience with the Lord Commander," he said, slowly becoming annoyed that this man was wasting his time. "Did you have something to tell me or are you going to sit there and not say anything?"

People were much less dicks back in Braavos... "Let's play it clear, friend, I am a red priest, I lived in Braavos since the war exploded, I came back here because I've seen things in my flames that none of you could imagine, I came back to Westeros only to offer your kingdom aid, and I am firstly scorned by my friends father and sent to the dungeons for doing nothing, and now I come to bring news that could save the kingdom and offer my powers in your aid, only to be treated like this? A piece of shit? I haven't lost 20 years of my life giving blood and sweat, learning the higher mysteries of this sick world to be treated like this... Please, answer me yourself, will you want or not my aid? I can burn houses with my hands, see the future and if I try hard I can even summon a demon shadow baby... There is a massive army of wildlings, giants an other things you can't even imagine, standing right over there, just one blink of your eyes and they will put this wall down, burn cities, rape women and kill children and innocents... Is this what you want?" He calmed himself, he knew this could cost his life... "Will you have my aid?" He said calmly on a deep low tone.

The Lord Commander rubbed his scraggly beard. It was still a steely gray, though his hair had long gone white.
"You have told me much. I know there was a war against the worshippers of R'hllor like you in the kingdoms, but we of the Night's Watch stay out of their petty arguments. I am sure your talents are many, but you will have to prove yourself to take the black, same as any other man." The army of wildlings and other things was no secret to him, or any of his officers. The men of the north would be coming soon enough, as many as Lord Stark could gather. "You seem perceptive, if a bit brash. You would do well to learn some humility."

Humility... If he only knew... "I shall join the Watch, but I may I have a request? Keep my Red Robes? Forsaking my god won't make any difference..." He said.

"I care not what gods a man does or does not keep, but a man of the Night's Watch wears black. Black is quite visible in the snow, but red would be even more so. No one wears red north of the Wall."
The Lord Commander shuffled his papers. "Until you take your vows, though, I care not. Some of your future brothers, however, might." He shrugged. "Perhaps it will teach them tolerance."

"Well... Then... " He said slowly. "R'Hllor will certainly understand... May I have your leave?"

"You have it," he said distractedly. It was clear he wished to get back to his reading.
