"Thank you for the offer, my lord, but I prefer to ride on my own." She glanced down at her gloved hands, clutching the reins. "I am sorry about what happened in the High Hall. The princess sometimes gets ahead of herself. She's very bright but still somewhat naive."

"You do not need to apologize for her, she was right after all." He states looking to her.

"In what way, my lord?" Lorraine drew her horse up alongside his. "I am just embarrassed... because I am not used to being the center of attention. Anyone's attention. I've never courted before."

"I never said we were courting." He smiles to her. "Shall I take it that is what you want?"

"I have a son, he was born during the war time. His mother was killed a year later by bandits, we were to be wed a few months before the end of the war. Something that I could just not give away....it left me frozen...left in the snow." He states looking forward.

When she looked up at him again, she asked, "And why would such things make you weak? The loss of a loved one is painful, and no one is spared that pain."

"I do not wish to sound repeating. Many things make me seam weak...but I have known that your eyes play tricks and most often lies you, and where I have learned to look past what I can see, and to see what I feel. As I have done with you." He states.

"I suppose you are better than I am at that. At court, to say what one feels is to open oneself to criticism and ridicule. I am still afraid I will fall prey to someone's game." She sought his eyes, willing him to see past her words.

He looks into her eyes deeply. "I find you intelligent, and wise. You need not be afraid around me, I told you what is deep inside me, I am open to peoples criticism myself yet I do not care and around me your feelings will be treated the same, without fear." He states.
