Lorraine was only clasped tighter. "I thought I killed you. I killed the other one. The arrow went into his head. Gods, I killed someone." She looked around, seeing the Goldcloaks dragging lifeless bodies and parts of bodies.

He shrugged. "Better you than me. I wouldn't go near the white cloaks now. They're itching something fierce for something more to kill. They don't like to be ambushed, sure as sure."

"Thank you." She buried her face in his chest, trying to shut out everything. She was thankful for his forgiveness. She just wanted to be away from the death and the dying.

He strokes her hair. "I do not want you to put down a bow....it was a mistake....you were shaken." He says as she buried her face into his leather and fur.

She felt his hand in her hair. "The other wasn't a mistake. I meant to kill him. And now I regret it. Perhaps I will take up my bow again, but not against another person. Never that, I hope."

She looked up at him and realized that aside from the wound she had caused, in his back, he was bleeding from several other places as well. Her mouth opened in surprise. "I was so selfish! I didn't even realise..." She stepped away from him. "I will join the princess in the carriage."
